To date, it is assumed that atherosclerosis is an inflammatory vascular condition, and certain infectious diseases may provoke atherosclerosis and possibly be one of its risk factors. Chronic periodontitis, perceived as an infectious disease induced by bacteria, is regarded as one of the major causes of oral infection and has also been proved to contribute to the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis via direct or indirect invasion of periodontal pathogens in recent years. The correlation of these two diseases will be discussed and we elucidate their possible links.The number of males in this study is 123. The age is 28 y/o to 83 y/o. The number of females is 61. The age is 30 y/o to 80 y/o. The number of those aged below 50 y/o is 39(21.19%). The number of those aged above 50 y/o is 145(78.8%). The study showed significant differences in age. Glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, missing teeth, calcification index in those above 50 years old was greater than below 50 years old. This study revealed significant differences in gender. The HDL in females was greater than in males. The triglycerin in males was greater than in females. The calcification index in males had the greater predominance. The severity of gingivitis is statistically significantly correlated to the higher calcification index.
