The Japanese occupied Taiwan from 1895, and the Governor-General of Taiwan built the infrastructure. In 1924, the Taiwan Fruit Company Ltd. was established. The shipment, export and wholesale of Taiwanese bananas underwent significant development under unified management. Before World War II, the Philippines was a Spanish colony from 1565. Spain had simply wished to exploit it. Elite were used to control all of the country. They grew to large landowners. The country became an American colony in 1898. After World War II, the Japanese government import of Taiwanese bananas for occupying forces. After this, the private companies started import of bananas again, bringing great profit to both sides. Focusing on the liberalization of banana imports to Japan, Philippine bananas produced by multinational corporations quickly established their position in the Japanese market. Since the “Golden Age”, exports of Taiwanese bananas to Japan have steadily decreased. This is because Taiwanese bananas were neglected due to a failure of recognition. Today, the value of bananas in the Japanese market has fallen from a luxury item to a low price fruit that is an inferior commodity. When selling these bananas, the key is how to motivate consumers. I will watch the trend of Taiwanese bananas, and continue my study. Shou-Ai Lee 李守愛 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 226
