Comprising 2 dimensions about needs for, and satisfaction towards the respiratory care, a self-report structured questionnaire was developed and used. A total of 120 individuals answered the questionnaire, which constituted the final number of the participants. The Cronbach alphas of the domains of family needs and satisfaction were 0.73 and 0.90 respectively, indicating a well internal consistency of the questionnaire. With SPSS for Windows 17.0, Student’s T-test, ANOVA, and linear regression were used for data analysis. The results showed an average score of 4.11 for the dimension of family needs. Among them, the component of “disease condition related” was ranked the most important with mean score of 4.31 whereas the component of “ward facilities” was ranked the least with mean score of 3.97, indicating that families of the patients emphasized on the needs for better care for the patients such as explanation for the disease and treatment by the physicians, attitude of both the physicians, and the ability of the nurses to assess the patient immediately and offer prompt care. The results also demonstrated an average score of 3.98 for the dimension of family satisfaction. The component of “disease condition related” of the dimension of family needs was ranked the most important with mean score of 4.09 while the item of “coordinated service” was ranked the least with mean score of 3.90, evidencing that the items the families of the patients satisfied were consistent with their needs. For examples, explanation for the disease and treatment by the physicians, attitude of both the physicians, the ability of the nurses to assess the patient immediately and offer prompt care, and provide patient privacy. The characteristics of the families correlated significantly with the needs, including age, marital status, educational level, occupation, work shift, expectation for treatment, convenience to go to the RCC, and if they live with the patients. The characteristics of the families, e.g. marital status, educational level, occupation, expectation for treatment, convenience to go to the RCC, and if he/she is the main source of income for the family were associated significantly with satisfaction. The characteristics of the patients were significantly correlated with the needs, which included age, gender, educational level, main diagnosis, specialty, severity of the disease, days on ventilator, insurance coverage, and if he/she is the main source of income for the family. The characteristics of the patients, e.g. age, gender, marital status, educational level, main diagnosis, specialty, severity of the disease, days on ventilator, and if he/she is the main source of income for the family were associated significantly with satisfaction. The results of this study help us to better understand the family needs of long-term ventilator users. Whole-person or whole-family clinical care to improve the quality and namely satisfaction would be tailor-made accordingly. Chou-Ping Chiou Hung-Chi Chen 丘周萍 陳宏基 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 99 zh-TW |
