A quasi-experimental pre-and post-test research design with two groups was used. A convenient sample of 100 burn patients with scar contracture from a regional hospital in southern Taiwan was recruited. The research instruments used in this study included: a structured demographic questionnaire, a functional independence scale, a pressure garment application knowledge, and a quality of life scale. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, independent t-test, and paired t-test were utilized for data analysis. The results have three folds. The first aspect is the self-care ability level of burn patients with scar contracture. The experimental group (multimedia teaching) showed a significant improvement in the self-care ability level (p<0.001). The second aspect is the level of pressure garment application knowledge on burn patients with scar contracture. Both experimental and control groups had significant increases on the level of pressure garment application knowledge (p<0.001). However, the experimental group (88.18%) was more effective than the control group (65.41%) for pressure garment application knowledge. The third aspect was the quality of life level of burn patients with scar contracture. Both experimental and control groups had significant increases on the level of quality of life (p<0.01). However, the experimental group (1.59 %) was more effective than the control group (0.90%) for quality of life. The results of this study showed significant effectiveness of multimedia nursing education on self-care ability, pressure garment application knowledge effective, and quality of life of burn patients with scar contracture. We recommend these findings may provide health care professionals with references as planning and providing patient education. Hung-Chi Chen Chou-Ping Chiou 陳宏基 丘周萍 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 80 zh-TW
