From Life Course to Inspect the Character Evaluation on Housewife and the Experience in the Succession of Generation for Mothers and Daughters

碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 社會福利學系碩士班 === 99 === In 1970s, Feminism has significantly affected the concept of Sex Equality in Taiwan, since then, working women with outstanding achievement in their career will be commonly regarded as the successful female role model in our society. In contrast, the female role of housewives has been considered as a traditional character which is also not good for women’s employment. Moreover, the character evaluation of housewife usually tended to be negative in general public opinions, and the dominant culture described housewives as a female without self-concept and affiliated with their family. In view of the significantly opposing evaluation for housewives and working women, the traditional women of last generation shall be regarded as the cradle of educating the new women of this generation. Furthermore, in this current era these new women can also be said as the mainstay in our society. This paper is adopted mothers of Baby Boom-generation and daughters of N-generation as the research object. In addition, an in-depth interview has conducted with these 2 generations to understand their evaluation on housewife, and what is the affecting level of the succession of generation from the parental generation learning. In these interviews, this paper is attempted to investigate which is the continuous part and which is the split part for the succession of generation within the parental generation learning. In addition, based on the viewpoint and research of previous literature, this paper is also intended to examine how many similarities and differences between these 2 generation women with the evaluation of housewife character in the current era? Since the traditional women of last generation who should be regarded as the incubator to educate the new women of this generation, and these new women are the biggest producer among female in Taiwan’s society; therefore, with the rolling of time wheel and women of these 2 generations were affected by their times respectively, they had their own explanation for life. However, women of these 2 generations were closely bound to each other due to the succession; thus, this paper is also adopted the expectation difference, the character evaluation and the succession of generation for the character of housewife between these 2 generation women as the research contents.
