Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 跨文化研究所翻譯學碩士在職專班 === 99 === In the past, cognitive psychology was not an ordinary genre of reading in the eyes of common readers; however, since the reading group has been growing as well as specializing over the past decade, as we have noted, the construction of a system of lexicons that features consistency and readability, which would facilitate readers'comprehension, is becoming consequently more important. “Cognition” refers to the base of human mentality, compassing senses, perceptions, attention and memories and so forth, all of which cooperate to assist human beings in creating a subjective world and knowledge. The current paper aims to use the vocabulary contained in the ten books I studied in the first year graduate school, regarding cognitive psychology (including English and Chinese versions) as a reference, to discuss the meanings and structures of lexicons of psychology. Translators need more than intuition and experience when doing translations. A translator shall view from the perspective of linguistics and develop the patterns and rules of lexical translation. The study further induces the commonly used vocabulary of cognitive psychology, pinpointing the morphology of prefixes and suffixes and grasping the meanings and implications of these lexicons. Upon achieving the abovementioned missions, the paper further explores the types of English-to-Chinese translations that the lexicon of cognitive psychology generally falls into. When a translator translates specific-field articles from English to Chinese, where new-coined nouns or abbreviations abound, the translation of lexicons often invites much trouble: whether the abbreviations should be transferred into another expression in the target language, kept its original form in the translation, offered an explanation shown in parenthesis, or given a new-coined Chinese word or phrase. Obviously, there are no rules for translators to follow, which leads to the phenomenon that the same lexicon has divergent Chinese translations (from works published by various publishers). This causes confusion for the readers, hence the importance of technical translations. The paper organizes a system of lexicons by inducing the translation examples and rules for terminologies in cognitive psychology and applying SDL Trados WinAlign and MultiTerm, both of which are widely used TM devices. With the transfer-in of lexicons and the systematic management of lexicons, the appropriate usage of TM can save up considerable time in consulting dictionaries and cost. In this study, TM has been put into use and demonstrated the merits and demerits in the process in the hope that the result can serve as a reference for future translators who translate lexicons of specific fields.
