Description
Summary:博士 === 輔仁大學 === 音樂研究所 === 99 === Luys Milán (ca. 1500–1561) was the first composer in history to publish music for the vihuela, and he was also one of the first musicians to specify verbal tempo indications in his music. In 1536 he published El maestro, a collection with forty fantasias, six pavans, four tientos, twelve villancicos, as well as sonetos (settings of Italian sonnets), and other pieces. El maestro is a book intended for students and educator of the vihuela. It demonstrates from simple to complex, so that a novice can advance from elementary to gradually more complicated pieces as he learns. The six pavans are in intermediate level, they were composed in eight different modes, as well as mixed modes, in fashion at the time. In addition, the sixth pavan is in triple time, it was quite unusual in the same category in Renaissance period. Most of the six pavans are also written in four-part texture, and with alternating style of polyphony and homophony, foreshadowing the music of the next generation. With all the effort, the dissertation is intended to give an appropriate comprehension and interpretation; since El maestro is in wood-carved printing, and with contemporary language, it yields difficulty to read and to interpret the music.
