Participants of this study were three sixth grade students who used Yahoo Messenger for more than two hours a day. Qualitative interview is adopted in the study as the major research method. The study has reached the conclusions as follows: 1. Yahoo Messenger could help develop interpersonal relationship: three participants had made many friends with the on-line game system and WRETCH blog; however, they seldom had connection hereafter. Two of the participants considered that they could expand their social network by Yahoo Messenger. 2. The on-line and off-line self-disclosure is no difference: the participants considered that they were still the same both on line and off line. The world of Yahoo Messenger is viewed as the stretch of real life. And, on-line and off-line self-disclosure is the same. 3. Using the Yahoo Messenger is the first choice of students as they used the computer. As long as they could get on-line, they would use Yahoo Messenger. Thanks to the multiple processing of the computer, they would use many programs at the same time. Participants used two hours a day in average at home and they typed to communicate with each other. 4. Family members could not prohibit them from using Yahoo Messenger but set time limitation. Participants would not let their family members to know what they said and whom they talked to. Family members did not recognize the on-line friends and did not know the chat as well. 1.
