Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 公共政策所 === 99 === The purpose of practicing Gender Equlity Education is to make students understand the biological differences between the sexes, recognize the value in the stereotypes of the roles that gender plays, respect social diversity and avoid gender bias and discrimination.This study, at the same time, aims to ensure an individual to own an independent capability and to be aware of the right to process self-development.This then further helps to create a harmony and mutual society.
In this research, the interviews and group-focused methods were conducted. Ten students in Grade Sixth as well as the three teachers were interviewed in order to understand students’ awareness of gender issues, including "gender identity", "gender roles", "sex-role stereotypes ", and " the concept of gender ". In addition, this study explores how their awareness can be influenced by the families, the school and the society. It also examined whether students reach the target of gender equality on the basis of the ability index which was planned by Gender Equality Education.
This research concludes the following four findings: 1. the students’ awareness of gender equality has been developed; 2 their gender consciousness stems from the family; 3 the school has taught children the concept of gender equality; 4 a multi-cultural society helps students to achieve gender equality.
This study finally recommends: 1. to strengthen family functions; 2. to enhance the knowledge and ability of Gender Equality Education on campus; 3.television media needs to practice the gender education and to take the social responsibility; 4. the community to be responsible of Gender Equality Education . This study, including its findings as well as the recommendations expects itself to contribute to Gender Equality Education.
