Summary:碩士 === 大葉大學 === 應用外語研究所 === 99 === The purpose of this thesis is to compare “The Izu Dancer (伊豆の踊子)” by the modern Japanese literary giant Yasunari Kawabata with its Chinese and English translations. Chapter one of this thesis is the introduction, which discusses the motivation behind and purpose of writing this thesis. Chapter two provides background information about Yasunari Kawabata and discusses his motivation for writing this novella. Chapter three focues on the Chinese translations of the text, including A-xun Yu’s (余阿勳)《伊豆的舞娘》, Hua-ting Liu’s (劉華亭)《伊豆的舞娘》, and Wei-quYe’s (葉渭渠)《伊豆的舞孃》and compares their merits and shortcomings. Chapter four examines the English translation and compares the merits and shortcomings of the Chinese translations and the English translation. Chapter five is the conclusion, which discusses methods for improving Chinese, English, and Japanese reading and translation skills through the study of good translations, deletions, additions, and mistranslations in Chinese and English.
