Recently, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) has attracted much attention due to their potential inhibition of pathogen including H. pylori , Streptococcus mutans and Staphyloccus aureus. Therefore, the effects of lactic acid bacteria isolated from fermented vegetables on H.pylori were tested. A standard antimicrobial plate well diffusion assay was employed to examine inhibitory effects on H. pylori BCRC17023 and BCRC15415. 15 strains of LAB demonstrated inhibition of Helicobacter pylori growth in comparison with L. lactis subsp. lactis BCRC10791. In vitro test, the concentration of spend culture supernatant (SCS) against BCRC17023 and BCRC15415 was served in 12.5%. Among of them, 10 strains of LAB showed a significant inhibition rate (70%) against H. pylori compared to BCRC10791 and B. lactis BCRC17394 (Bb-12). Further, the effect of LAB strains on the urease activity of H.pylori was examined. The urease activity of H. pylori BCRC17023 was significantly inhibited by the presence of B0001, B0003, B0055, B0077 and B0155-SCS. H. pylori BCRC15415 was significantly inhibited by B0055, B0056-SCS. Strains of B0001, B0003, B0055, B0077, B0155 were identified as Lactobacillus plantarum and B0056 was Pediococcus pentosaceus , based on 16S rDNA sequence. Treatment of H. pylori BCRC17023 and BCRC15415 with LAB-SCS significantly reduced the number of H. pylori adhering to the monolayer of Caco-2 and TSGH9201 cell lines.
