Summary:碩士 === 中國醫藥大學 === 護理學系碩士班 === 99 === Abstract Title of Thesis:A Preliminary Study to Explore The Meaning of Spiritual Nature for Nurses in Eemergency Room Institution:Graduate Institute of Nursing China Medical University Author:hsing ju LIN Thesis directed by:Wei-Fen Ma / School of Nursing(Associate Professor) Abstract This study explored the spirituality of ER nursing professionals. We adopted descriptive-qualitative method and recruited 15 nurses from a medical center in Taiwan with purposive sampling. Semi-structured were conducted with 1 male and 14 female participants for the purpose of data collection. Qualitative data analysis method was employed to interpret it. Spirituality is inside each individual and is the essence of life. It exists in our life experiences such as success and failure and happiness and sadness. It also manifests itself in thinking, attitude, behavior, emotions and interpersonal relationships. Only through spirituality can one convey true concern. Nursing in Taiwanese articulates as “giving you” and thus epitomizes the life experiences of nursing professionals. This study presents the preliminary analysis of spirituality of ER nursing practitioners through which we investigated its meaning to and influence on nurses. The purpose of this study is twofold: encouraging Taiwanese nursing circle to focus on spirituality of both patients and nursing staff as well as to develop it within ER nurses. Doing so consummates the spirituality of ER nursing staff and allows them to perceive the meaning and value of their existence, leading them to a more meaningful life while appreciating various life experiences. It will help nurses achieve self-actualization. Results were classified into 3 dimensions with 9 subthemes according to data analysis proposed by Tesch. 3 dimensions include: “belief in survival of inner force” (concrete spiritual power, indescribable abstract state and healing power, 4 subthemes), “jointly-shaped value and mission” (making good use of one’s ability to satisfy and enrich others, 2 subthemes) and “test of resilience” (being more responsible, interaction of sense and sensibility and facing reality with reasons, 3 subtheme). The results conclude that spirituality of ER nurses “is a belief in survival, carrying jointly-shaped value and mission and can only be obtained by test of resilience.” This study introduced the significances of spirituality of ER nursing professionals which may serve as a basis for spiritual education at nursing schools and workplace and a guideline of spiritual growth for nursing leaders and grassroots staff.
