| Summary: | 碩士 === 中華大學 === 土木工程學系碩士在職專班 === 99 === The development of Bed and Breakfast (B&B) in Taiwan thrived since 1997 and has flourished since 2000. In addition to the emotions towards rural farm house, the resort-like environment and services offers friendly perception of hospitality. Many B&B in Yilan area preserve considerably natural style. The study explores the degree of favor towards B&B from different ages of people in Yilan, the impact of B&B brought upon the local economy and the local industries, related industries, and the plans which government should emphasize. The study adopts qualitative research and understands the existing Yilan B&B tourism according to literature collection, participant observation, and in-depth interviews, thereby proposes analysis and recommendation.
The study result of the interviews with the 32 participants shows that tourists visiting the B&B in Yilan consist mainly of young people, and the activities engaged include family recreation and small group activities, while the major means of transportation consist of compact cars. Although B&B brings economical growth and more job opportunities with respect to economic impact, B&B also contains seasonal unemployment. With regards to the environment, the public infrastructure and new venue of recreations are followed by dirty environment, pollution to air, water and noise, and not to mention the traffic chaos. Nonetheless, the B&B industries and development have preserved the appearance and features of the excellent sceneries in Yilan rural areas; thereby promoting the region to benefit more people.
The paper proposes for the B8B development and strategies to combine the common efforts from the industries, government, and academia, to develop towards cross-industry alliance, eco-tourism programs, section integration, and strengthen concept of service by formulating existing differentiated marketing strategy and promotion channels, in addition to strengthening the utilization and monitoring of all resources to cope with the changes of new era. Finally, the paper offers recommendations as follows: owners of B&B are recommended to combine development with general community construction, establish evaluation system and develop local B&B style from the perspective of consumers, thereby develop B&B industry with sustainable growth in Yilan.
