In responding to such a situation, healthcare providers actively look ways to strengthen internal quality improvement and organizational reform which in turn result in increasing organizational competitiveness. Improveing the quality of health care is an important strategy to enhance organizational competitiveness. Quality improvement needs that all members within a hospital pay attention to quality requirements and are willing to change behavior to meet the quality requirements. Qulity improvement therefore is largely related to social contexts such as team climate or organizational culture. To establish team climate inducive to quality improvement, team leaders play an important role by influencing members through leadership and creating an appropriate social context or team climate. By employing survey research method, this study aims to investigate how the relationship between leadership styles and team quality is mediated by the influence of team climate. Structural questionnaires used in this study included the Multidimensional Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) and the subscale Vision from the Team Climate Inventory (TCI). A total of 803 full-time staffs within 66 work teams from a medical center of Taiwan were surveyed. The analyses included correlation, regression, and path analysis. The results suggested that transformational leadership has positive and significant effect upon team quality performance while the transactional leadership has no such effect. In addition, the relationship between transformational leadership and team quality performance is significantly medicated by the team climate with clarity of vision. H. M.
