This paper is a case study on the nursing information system for colostomies at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital that analyzes the requirements of and proposes a design for such a system. To understand the system requirements, the study looked through all paper records while acquiring tacit knowledge from healthcare workers with years of working experience. The analysis was completed by categorizing and charting the knowledge. The designed system was tested and found satisfactorily fulfill the daily nursing needs and improve efficiency. Its ability to serve reminders was helpful in ensuring patient safety. For example, the support rod used in the stoma needs to be removed within a certain time frame; in the worst case scenario, if this isn't done which may result in a second surgery. Thus, it is important that healthcare workers are reminded in such timely manner and that they acknowledge the reminder. The system proposed in this paper will decrease the risks related to medical tubing according to the nine key patient safety goals proposed by the Taiwan Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation for 2010-2011. In sum, this system will simplify operations, improve healthcare worker efficiency, and further ensure patient safety. J. J. Hwang 黃景彰 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 98
