All the information in this study is collected through interviews and participant observation. Five Taiwanese bicyclists are then selected via judgment sampling and interviewed with semi structured methods. The researcher later spends six weeks with one of the five bicyclists to study his participating behavior by participant observation. After a continuous comparison, compilation and analysis with open and axial coding, a survey on Coping Strategies of Taiwan’s Bicyclists’ Participating Motives, Effective Factors and Enduring Involvement is therefore established. With the object of study targeted at bicyclists in Taiwan, 350 questionnaires have been issued based on convenience sampling, recycling a total of 311 effective questionnaires with a returns-ratio of 89%. The survey concludes the key participating motives of bicyclists in Taiwan include social involvement, physical fitness and emotional compensation. The effective factors of participation can be divided into barrier factors and social support. Constraint factors are consisted of structural barriers, interpersonal barriers and personal barriers, whereas social support includes information support, appraisal support as well as instrumental support. On the other hand, coping strategies of enduring involvement include self adjustment, self challenge and self fulfillment. Based on the key findings of quantitative methods, the sequence of participating motivation is social involvement, physical fitness and emotional compensation. As for the barrier factors, it’s ordered by structural barriers, personal barriers and interpersonal barriers, while the sequence of social support is appraisal support, information support and instrumental support. As far as enduring involvement is concerned, self adjustment plays the key role, followed by self fulfillment and self challenge. The result of this study clarifies the current situation, effective factors and enduring involvement of bicyclists’ participating motivation in Taiwan, and is expected to help promote and market the bicycling activity on the island.
