A questionnaire survey entitled “The questionnaire of the role perception, job stress and coping strategies of police agency inspectors,” was mailed to 285 inspectors as the object in all police departments in Taiwan. Two hundred and 11 valid questionnaires were collected with a return rate of 74.04%. The data were analyzed by using the SPSS 12.0 for descriptive statistics, item analysis, factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe method for post hoc multiple comparison, and Pearson’s produce-moment correlation. The conclusions based on results of this study were listed as follows:1.The level of role perception of police agency inspectors reaches high-intermediate level. 2. “Career development” is the main source of the job stress. 3. “Emotional adjustment” is the coping strategy more frequently used by police agency inspectors than “delay and escape”. 4. Male inspectors, ages over 41, married, graduated from Central Police University (two-year education), have higher role perception. 5.Male inspectors, ages 31 to 40, master degree and above, have higher job stress. 6. “Searching for support” is the coping strategy more frequently used by the police agency inspectors with 2 to 5 years working experience. 7. There is no significant correlation between the role perception and job stress of inspectors. 8. A significant positive correlation was found between the job stress and coping strategy of inspectors. 9. A positive significant correlation is revealed between the role perception and coping strategy of inspectors. 10. The role perception and job stress of inspectors have predictability for coping strategy.
