| Summary: | 碩士 === 雲林科技大學 === 漢學資料整理研究所碩士班 === 98 === The development of the chuanqi (legends) fiction genre in the Ming dynasty originated in Qu You’s Jian Deng Xin Hua and Li Changqi’s Jian Deng Yu Hua at the beginning of the Ming dynasty. Regarded as the origin of classical-Chinese fiction in the Ming dynasty, Jian Deng Xin Hua broadened the horizons of Ming chuanqi fiction through the writing method of “creating zhiguai (supernatural tales) in the style of chuanqi.” Jian Deng Xin Hua played a vital role in the developmental history of classical-Chinese fiction. As the first emulative sequel, Jian Deng Yu Hua, in addition to serving as the cornerstone of poem-prose fiction in the Ming dynasty together with Jian Deng Xin Hua, also became a scapegoat in the first wave of fiction prohibition and destruction in the history of Chinese literature. Therefore, the work had a considerable influence on the development of Ming literature. Because of the popularity of vernacular-Chinese fiction in the Ming dynasty, the amount of research on Ming classical-Chinese fiction is scarce. Scholars in the past primarily studied Jian Deng Xin Hua, while Jian Deng Yu Hua was only looked upon as a work under the influence of the other. As a result, its value and the thoughts it conveys have been put on the backburner by the academic world.
Nowadays, while there are some researchers paying attention to Li’s Jian Deng Yu Hua, they mostly compare it with Jian Deng Xin Hua. Consequently, it is still difficult to thoroughly highlight the unique status and value of Jian Deng Yu Hua in its own right. It is discovered from the relevant literature that research on Jian Deng Yu Hua is still fractional and incomplete. Therefore, the thesis plans to begin with an exploration of Li Changqi’s life so as to grasp his motivation for writing Jian Deng Yu Hua and the influence the time and environment had on his writing it. Then, the variations and versions of Jian Deng Yu Hua will be discussed before its origins, as well as the aspirations of Li Zhen embodied in the work, are probed into so that the features of Jian Deng Yu Hua can be illuminated. Finally, the influence Li’s work had on classical-Chinese fiction, vernacular-Chinese fiction, chuanqi opera, etc. will be investigated respectively, and the situation of its overseas influence will be introduced so as to divulge the value of the book Jian Deng Yu Hua and help to make research on it more thorough.
