Musical elements are frequently used in our everyday lives, such elements can easily change the aura of its surrounding. What is the relationship between musical elements and the exhibits? What is the function of musical element? How it is put in use in contemporary museum exhibition? These are subjects that worth further discussion. Through literature review and exhibition analysis, this research examines the cases of museums which apply musical elements to their exhibitions, three levels were discovered in the relationship of music and exhibits: music as the exhibit itself, music combined with other elements as exhibits, and music as the context of exhibits. Having explored the roles of displayed music, the functions of music applied to museum exhibitions are: constructing certain aura and mood for the audiences to view the display, guiding the viewers’ attentions, awakening the viewers’ memories, creating an isolation of time and space, extending the narratives, Nostalgia, and labeling culture. In addition, in the case study of display analysis and audience research of Taipei Story House and Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum, Taipei Story House excels in using different types of music to collocate with different themes of exhibitions, its choice of music has a tendency of educational promotion agenda; while Meinong Hakka Cultural Museum uses multi-level expression to represent the traditional Hakka music, showing its aim to preserve and inherit traditional Hakka culture. From the audience research, this research attains the conclusion that most audiences hold an optimistic attitude toward the musical application to museum exhibition, under the premise of the music conforms to the theme of the exhibition and there is no interference between musical sources. The meaning of musical application to museum exhibition not only raises the depth and the aesthetic value of the exhibition but enhances the audiences’ sensory experiences, making contribution to the development of the musical intelligence. 陳佳利 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 153 zh-TW
