The title, "Narcissistic Talk," itself, describes an inner monologue for a person to reaffirm oneself and, here, it is used in a mocking way to describe oneself. The analysis compares narcissism to a form of spiritual schizophrenia. Within the artwork, the body language of the subjects express a sense of sarcasm. For example, according to current social assumptions, when a women uses her body seductively, she will receive the attention and affection of men; therefore, Yang''s work displays males with no body hair to trick the audience into thinking they are female bodies. Through works like these, he explores both men and women''s views on the opposite sex and on their own gender, while also reflecting on the effects of an individual''s environment towards the development of a "narcissistic" view. In this essay, a reflective analytical approach is taken to conduct an in-depth study of the relationship between a person and their environment, while making references to historical literature and comparing them with Yang''s artwork to illustrate similarities. Included in this paper is a dialogue between Yang and Guo Weiguo to validate this analysis'' perspective. The first section of this essay will discuss the motive, purpose, scope, and methodology of this study. The second part will focus on the actual analysis of the art work''s themes and, particularly, on elements that reflect on the the effects of modern society on people towards developing a narcissistic character. This study will discuss the causes of narcissism by referring to childhood experiences and citing literary reviews, and also demonstrate how this behavior is expose in paintings. The third, and final, section will define the painting techniques and methods of expression involved in the aforementioned works, and proved step by step accounts of experiences and perspectives gained in the creation process.
