A title usually has many variants in melodies and lyrics, while one melody manifests various styles under different instrumental compositions. This thesis explores through three songs, “The Spring Sorrow”, “Boat Song of Love”, and “The Pregnant Woman Song”, all exist in Taiwan for a long time and have several versions from different time and area. Through both the comparison between lyric and melody texts, and music analysis of interpretations of contemporary composers, this thesis shows the richness and diversity in formality of folk music in Taiwan.
