Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北藝術大學 === 美術史研究所 === 98 === Argubly the most significant painting of Surrealist painter Rene Magritte is “La Trahison des images”, dated in 1929-1930. This work sited his realms of interests in the relationship between words and images, as to the discussion of Representation. In the mid-1960’s after Magritte read Michel Foucault’s famous “Les Mots et les choses”, they exchanged letters for defining the issues “resemblance”,”similitude”and”representation”. Then Foucault published a book “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” in 1973 which brought at the apogee of these issues. The range of discourse for Magritte’s painting is thus enlarged, in the key themes achieved a heightened clarity, especially in the realms of Surrealism and Conceptualism.
