By examining my personal process of artistic creation from 2005 to 2009 and thus, establishing my own beliefs of art, I attempt to illustrate the contemporary value of painting. This article describes the mental state of a laboring body in motion (painting), development of evolving symbols, and one’s surrounding through methods of experimentation, self-reflection, and classification. The thesis is structured by four main topics. Chapter one, titled “Local Surroundings, Ecology, and Oneself,” explains my initial desire to create art and explores the relationship between new ways of expression, and local land or surroundings. In chapter two, “Extension of Original Model,” I analyze my selection of media, forms of expression, and experimentation in artworks by looking into the process by which forms of plants are transformed into symbols. Chapter three, “Intrinsic Spirituality and Play of Interspaces,” highlights my core beliefs of art and the significance of contemporary interpretation of paintings. Chapter four, “Original Momentum-Rhythmic Painting from Ballpoint—Process and Concept of Artistic Creation,” is divided into five sections that elaborate on six series of works, including my personal sequence of artworks, process of creation, and the use of new media. This will clearly situate the contemporary value of paintings and in so doing, assist my own positioning in the greater picture of paintings’ roles in art history, which provides me guidance to overcome boundaries in the future.
