| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南藝術大學 === 藝術史與藝術評論研究所 === 98 === Guangyuan Grottoes, locate in Guangyuan City, northern Sichuan Province, lying on the upper reaches of Jialing River, bordering Ningqiang, Shaanxi, situated northeast of Qinling Mountains and southwest of Sichuan, always being called the key to Sichuan, which was the passage from Kingdom Qin to Kingdom Shu in ancient times, playing an important role in both military and transport, and the Bao-Chen Railway also traverses this area. Sichuan Basin is so fertile that it has always enjoyed its laudatory title "nature's storehouse". But circumscribed by the mountains, its transport is not convenient. Guangyuan just stands on the way linking Sichuan Basin and Shaanxi and Gansu. The way from Hanzhong to Sichuan Basin was called Jinniu Road at that time, and most part of it was in Guangyuan.
Scholars often mention that Thousand Buddha Cliffside Statues and Huangze Temple in Tang Dynasty are more inclined to northern central plains’ grottoes in the pattern of the cave, the theme and the content, the style of the statues, etc.. And they often compared Guangyuan Grottoes with Longmen Grottoes, seldom take the impact of Chang'an statues into account. Though it's true that there are more things in common between them, as Chang'an has unique historical position at that time, the author wonders more eagerly whether the impact of Chang'an statues works on Guangyuan Grottoes, which was the entrance of the statues’ style to Sichuan Province.
Huangze Temple, Thousand Buddha Cliffside Statues and Kwan-yin Cliffside Statues are the main part of Guangyuan Grottoes, which reach more than one thousand grottoes in all. The author begins the study with the inscription. First order the grottoes whose stage can be known by the inscription, and then analyze the style and order them by stages, meanwhile, add the grottoes whose stage can not be known by the inscription to perfect the development of the grottoes. Then by the analysis of the pattern, the combination, the theme and the content, try to study the grottoes with its background of history, expecting to summarize more clearly the regional characteristic of Guangyuan Grottoes. And by the link of the transmission line-Jinniu Road, get to know why Guangyuan Grottoes have the impact of Chang'an statues.
