Description
Summary:碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 兒童發展碩士學位學程 === 98 === The main purpose of this study is to explore the summary ability of childrdn who are differences ages and with different reading comprehension ability. In the meanwhile, the study is also to investigate the process of summarization of children with different summary ability. To fulfill the purposes, the study used “Reading Comprehension Test” to select 40 third graders and 40 fifth graders from the elementary school in Kaohsiung County. Two types of data were gathered from the field: students’ performances in a summarization task and the post-summarization interview. Two-way ANOVA and Chi-Square Test were used to analyse the data. The findings of this study were as follows: (1)In regard to the performances of summary ability, the main effects of ages and reading comprehension abilities were significant. However, the interaction effect between ages and reading comprehension abilities only showed in “Efficiency of Summarization”. (2)From the interview data, differences showed in the process of summarization according to the grade of children. The same results also showed in reading comprehension abilities. (3)Children were able to use some of the summary rules, such as deletion of the information which are unimportant or trivial, deletion of the redundant information, or used the superordinate concepts to substitute the events. However, they were not able to use the rule of selection of a topic sentence while doing the summarization. (4)Children were not able to differentiate between summary rules and writing rules. (5)The differences showed in the process of summarization according to the summary abilities of children. The high summary abilities have more summary rules then the low summary abilities. However, they were not able to differentiate between summary rules and writing rules.
