Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 畜產與生物科技學系 === 98 === Swine industry in Taiwan is facing the challenge of abusing use of antibiotic. The survival rate is low in pig especially in weaned pigs and piglets. The commercial immune enhancer, OmniGen AF, is commonly used in dairy cattle in USA to enhance the immunity during lactation. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of OmniGen AF on the mortality and immunity in weaned piglets. The weaned pigs in commercial pig farms were fed regular commercial diet or commercial diet containing 0.2% OmniGen AF powder for 45 days. The resulted showed that the mortality of weaned pigs fed with 0.2% OmniGen AF was significantly lower than the control group. However, there was no difference in mortality between OmniGen AF-fed group and control group from the pig farms with low mortality (less than 10%) . The proliferation of lymphocyte in weaned pigs in OmniGen AF-fed group was higher than control group. However, expression of IL1-β, β-defensin, L-selectin in neutrophils, serum IgM and IgG are no difference between OmniGen AF-fed group and control group. It is concluded that the immunity enhancer, OmniGen AF, decreases the mortality in weaned pigs by increasing partial of immunity.
