Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 企業管理學系碩士班 === 98 === In the era of knowledge economy, governments and entrepreneurs place importance on innovation and intellectual property gradually. Because of shorter production of life cycle, increasing cost of R&D and diseconomic of invention scale, many managers adopt the concept of open innovation. They transact technologies across organizations then the growth of patent market is getting greater than before. Unfortunately, there are many obstacles while trading patent therefore patent intermediaries join the market. As the growth of patent market, there are diversities of patent intermediaries. As time goes on, their business models and roles are different form before. Previous studies of intermediaries focused on the field of technology. Studies about patent intermediaries are still lacking. Although few of studies mentioned about patent intermediaries, they just discussed how patent intermediaries run their business and what roles they play. However, the purpose of this thesis is to discuss about the evolving role of patent intermediaries and how do they create value for their clients. In order to know exactly how patent intermediaries do, I adopted case study and expert interview. The result appears that patent intermediaries develop with three steps – positive, active, and proactive. They provide integrated services to their clients. Their services are broader and deeper than before. Patent intermediaries create value base on four dimensions: efficiency, complementarities, lock-in, and novelty.
