Methods: By using the database of „2009 Yunlin county adolescents survey of perception, attitude and behavioral intentions to use the addictive substances‟, we selected 5th grade to 9thgrade students as our study samples, and grouped them as adolescents reared by grandparents and by parents. All the data obtained in the survey were analyzed by chi-square test, t-test and multiple regression analysis. Results: These results reveal as follows: 1. The differences of the attitude towards substance use between the early adolescents taken care by grandparents and taken care by parents in rural area are significant, especially in those who are boy, the children who ranks as middle place in their family, the only-child, the marital condition of their parents, the parents whose education level are high school, and those who are unhappy in school. 2. The relative elements that influence the attitude towards substance use among early adolescents in rural area are sex, the ranking in their family, their father‟s education level, economic situation by their self-consciousness, their feeling in school and at home, smoking behavior of their brothers and sisters, and smoking and drinking behavior of the classmates and friends. Conclusions:On the basis of this study, the researcher presents that there is a close connection between home and school.
