Description
Summary:碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 人類發展研究所 === 98 === Paiwan people live in the following areas: Taoyuan Village in Kaoshiung County; Machia, Chunre, Laiyi, Taiwu, Shanti, Mutan, Shitsi and Manchou Villiage in Pintung County; Chuoshi Village in Hualien county; Peinan, Chingfeng, Taimali, Taren and Tawu Village in Taitung County. The Cimo is a small group in Paiwan. The first research about Cimo people was published in 1956, but there were few studies related to them. Even, there is not a paper about Cimo people after they moved from Liuqiu. Recently, a few researchers tried to find out the history of Cimo. The research data of Paiwan people outnumber those of Cimo people. Gradually, Cimo people forgot their uniqueness and become part of the Paiwan people. This study tries to distinguish Cimo from Paiwan people using the data of ethnography, linguistics, archeology and especially, biological anthropology that based on mitochondrial DNA. In this research, I collect samples from the place where people consider them as Cimo. Then I analyze the samples’ mitochondrial DNA sequences and compare them with mitochondrial DNA sequences from Paiwan and other Taiwan aboriginal populations. I will also do the cluster analysis to find out the genetic relationships among Cimo, Paiwan and other aboriginal populations. The result shows that Cimo share closer relationship with Paiwan and Rukai in southern Taiwan. Although Cimo and Paiwan share common culture and languages, Cimo shares a closer genetic relationship with Rukai than with Paiwan. It is not clear why Cimo shares closer genetic relationship with Rukai. However, more genetic research with Cimo, Paiwan, Rukai and other aboriginal populations in southern Taiwan may shed light on the origin of these populations.
