The HOMER software developed by the NationalEnergy Renewable Laboratory (NERL) is applied to simulate optimal capacity of the system. The economic issues of optimization process can be conducted by different index, e.g., net present cost (NPC) and payback year. The impacts of the variations due to wind turbine hub height, capacity shortage and load profile are detailed investigated by three types of hybrid renewable systems. The hourly average meteorological data for solar radiation, wind speed and temperature data from the Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan at 25 sites in the year of 2008 were used to simulate the characteristics of optimal size of renewable system. The results show that the best site with minimum NPC for the Pv/battery hybrid systems are Hengchun in terms of 0% shortage and Chiaji in terms of 5% and 10% shortage, while Gilon attains the maximum NPC in all of for testing capacity shortage . For the Wind/battery hybrid system, the minimum NPC occurs at pengchiayu site and the worst site is Ilan. The Pengchiayu is the best site and Alishan is the worst site for the Wind /battery hybrid system. The sensitivity analysis of system capacity shortage has conducted by variations of NPC and site. The ratio of capacity shortage reduction or increment has different influences to the value of NPC at different sites in Taiwan. The conclusion of influencing payback year to different capacity shortage is also studies. The comparison among different hybrid systems, PV/wind/ battery and PV/battery are more proper than the Wind/battery hybrid system in Taiwan.
