The previous research studies on three Caos are rich and in various perspectives, however, when it comes to discussing their Yuefu works, the previous researchers tend to categorize those into ancient poetry for analysis. In fact, Yuefu has its own unique features other than those of ancient poetry, so it should be discussed separately based on its characteristics rather than mixing them with ancient poetry. Founded in the rich research done by senior researchers, this article inherited Qian Zhi-xi’s concept of “Yuefu Art" and extended from the characteristics of ‘music’ and ‘entertainment’ of Yuefu itself combining with the historical background as well as the personalities and experiences of three Caos. It aims to analyze the contents, emotions, writing motivations and styles of their works, and to compare with the ancient poems in Han Dynasty as well as to refer the works between three Caos for exploring their influences on the evolvement of Yuefu poetry. This work includes six chapters: Chapter one Introduction, illustrates the researcher’s motivation, the range or this study, research methods and procedures and the literature review. Chapter two introduces the background of origin and original functions, and analyzes its features of arts. It also compares the differences between Yuefu poetry and ancient poems in Jian-an Period, for observing its evolvement. Chapters three, four and five discuss the Yuefu poetry of Cao Cao, Cao Pei and Cao Zhi, respectively, indicating their features of work and the factors of shaping their styles. Chapter six Conclusion, summarizes the analysis done in the previous chapters and induce the position and value of the three Caos’ Yuefu poetry in the development of Yuefu.
