Additionally, it has served to break with the traditional way of selling software by incorporating software sales into the iPhone OS. Software developers only need to apply for a developer account and make an annual payment of 99 dollars, and then the developers can allow iPhone users to download their app from the App Store. Apple then shares the revenue with the developer at a 30:70 split. Software developers do are spared the cost of setting up a company. This arrangement has also been adopted by Google, with the launch of Android mobile operating system. This paper combines case studies, years of using Apple product, analysis and a discussion of the App Store business model, product life-curve of technology and innovation theory.
