His works full of strong feeling, which good in wrote the story of post-war and describes the helplessness people''s life by practical way. In 1989, the Swedish Academy gave the award to the writer who reviving the Spanish literature of post-war, that granted him the Nobel Prize in Literature. In 1996, Camilo José Cela got the highest honor of Spanish literature, Cervantes Prize. Therefore, he became the most representative writer of the Spanish literature of post-war. His representative works La familia de Pascual Duarte (1942), he wrote cruel story about civil war by realistic way, which gave a shock for the Spanish literature at that moment, and also being the one who begin the Spanish novel of post-war. The author wrote the miserable life story by the main character Pascual Duarte, depicting the helplessness life of poor countryside and the people of marginal society, outlining the society at that civil war period, and also picturing the problem of suffering people. Therefore, he set up the writing style ‘‘social realism’’ of the novel of post-war.
This paper analyses and presents the novel, La familia de Pascual Duarte, in a variety of features by the concept of the existentialism. In addition to introduction and conclusion, the total is divided into four chapters. The first chapter describes the background of the spanish literature of post-war, through the background at the time help us to understand the general situation of the novel of post-war. The second chapter describes the life of author, Camilo José Cela, comment related and his masterpiece La familia de Pascual Duarte. The third chapter describes the theory of the existentialism and those representative philosophers, and also analyses the relationship between the existentialism and the literature. The final chapter is the core of this paper, analyses the novel, La familia de Pascual Duarte, and the behavior of main character Pascual Duarte base on the theory of existentialism. Hoping by presenting the paper, let us have a better understanding about the general situation of the Spanish literature of post-war, and further to understand the writer''s feelings and his thoughts.
