The purpose of the study is to look into the caregivers’ parenting stress and the countermeasures during the procedure of nursing their own pre-school children from so-called single-earner families with holiday couples. Due to some limitations of sampling from the subjects of the study, the convenience sampling is adopted. Within 200 self-edited questionnaires, 121 of them are valid responses. For statistic analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson Product- Moment Correlation, and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis are adopted as well. The results are---
1. Some thirty percent of the caregivers feel higher parenting stress on their obstacle to life autonomy and less social interactions with other people.
2. Regarding countermeasures on parenting stress, female caregivers take more emotional expressions to other people than male caregivers do. Besides this, owing to individual background variables and parenting stress of the female caregivers, there exists partial discrepancy in their countermeasures
3. Relevance exists noticeably between parenting stress and the countermeasures.
4. Two variables, individual background and parenting stress, can be used to partly predict their countermeasures to the stress.
The suggestions are submitted according to the results mentioned above.
1. Suggestions to caregivers:
1) Have a better working and leisure time management, expand social life, and relieve the parenting stress timely.
2) Understand from various viewpoints the needs of children, adjust timely the inequality between expectations of children and the results, and increase the ability of caregivers’ own emotion management.
3) Promote self-understanding, enhance to positively realize the stress of family life, learn self-management of emotion, and help increase the parent-child relationship.
4) Have a positive attitude to deal with family life, social life and parenting stress and seek effective social support networks.
2. Suggestions to infant child care units:
1) Care actively the needs of family and provide the resources of welfare services or social welfare in order to effectively increase the ability of parenting and emotion management for parents.
2) Encourage the units to organize community links for parents or self-help groups in order to develop social support networks.
3) Provide cooperatively with social welfare units the information about the resources of social services.
3. Suggestions to relevant governmental social welfare units:
1) Make the best use of the social welfare units by widely propagating themselves.
2) Offer according to individual needs the learning programs to strengthen parenting ability of caregivers.
3) Provide child respite care for caregivers to relieve their parenting upbringing stress.
