Using car-PC with poor interface design can cost time and increase mental load. Poor user interface will take more “Attention Resource” from the user in operating the system. Interface design must consider “Usability” and satisfy user’s need to allow users interact with the system more effectively and safely. This study derived usability specification of Car-PC based on collected scenarios of Car-PC use. Seven functions of Car-PC: (1)Multimedia, (2)Mobile Phone, (3)Message, (4)Navigation, (5)Safety,(6)Personal, (7)System Setup were taken into consideration to derive scenarios for usability evaluation. The scenarios were tabulated in terms of environment, scenario, and required action plus the usability attribute, measurement concept, and measurement method. The usability attribute, measurement concept and measurement method mainly come from the ergonomic design guidelines. Since input and output devices can be shared by different functions, the design guides of input device (control) and output device (display) were tabulated separately from the seven functions. These scenarios and usability specifications were integrated into a scenario database. Two engineers were interviewed to express their concerns and suggestion for the scenario database. Scenarios can help to identify users need while usability attribute and measurement method can provide objective standard for product design.
