| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 表演藝術研究所 === 98 === This thesis contains five chapters, beginning with a purpose of study, a previous study, and research methods. I will first discuss the brief definition of “gay theatre” and its short history in Taiwan since 1990s, followed by the meanings and functions of gay theatre. Then I shall examine three types of gay plays to explore the unspoken voice by the playwrights since 2000, hoping that the “gay theatre” in Taiwan could be better understood. This thesis also aims to evaluate its specific role in contemporary theatre in Taiwan. .
Thus, after introduction, the second chapter will focus on the definition and development of gay theatre in Taiwan. In the third chapter, I shall analyze three types of gay plays: gay love, genre ideology, and translated/adapted plays by way of discussing play structure, characterization, and main theme. The fourth chapter will explore three types of characters: gay, .lesbian, and bisexual. The fifth chapter will focus on the dilemma of gay theatre, and this thesis will conclude with suggestions to the future of gay theatre.
