This thesis is focused on the research and interpretation of Robert Schumann’s “Liederkreis Op.39.” It is divided into six chapters as follows. Chapter 1: Introduction, it includes the motivations, purposes, methods. Chapter 2: Romanism on German literature and music in 19th century. Chapter 3: Schumann’s life and other famous song cycle. Chapter 4: Eichendorff’s life and his works. Chapter 5: the research and interpretation of Schumann’s “Liederkreis Op.39.” The first part is to introduce “Liederkreis Op.39” and the second part is the research and interpretation of twelve songs. Chapter 6: Conclusion. The writer hopes via this research paper, more people will be interested in Schumann’s song cycle.
