碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 工藝設計學系碩士班 === 98 === The denotation of Chi (器) in Chinese character would be the utensils used for functional purposes. The connotation of utensils has extended from visible field, like standard tableware and into the invisible aspect, for example, the bearing of a noble person, regulations, restrictions, and clustering. My creation is based on the concept of “Utensils”, and by using wood craft skills to put these thoughts into practice, creating a total of four series. “Nature Image” is one of the pieces that express the imagery of the clustered butterflies of nature. “Space Image” shows the different settlements and extensity between the wood blocks, wood chips and wood color. As for “Between Utensil and Man” presents a cutaway view of the utensil form. “Aesthetics of Utensils Life” focus on particular daily utensils, like incense stove. Besides discussing the different meanings and relationships between utensil and man, this discourse also introduce wood craft techniques in detail, including selecting wood, woodturning skills, assembling, finishing, grinding, shaping, surface textures, and other creating skills, providing a complete reference for those in need of educational outreach and learning practice.
