Description
Summary:碩士 === 臺灣大學 === 圖書資訊學研究所 === 98 === A self availability analysis was conducted to assess the degree to which National Chi Nan University Library was able to support graduate students who were in the process of the writing their theses. Both monographs and journal articles were taken into consideration. Using Kantor’s branching technique model, I was able to attribute library access failures to various errors in library operations: acquisition, cataloging, circulation, library and users. It was found that the immediate availability rate is low compared to findings in the literature. Acquisition errors accounts for the largest portion of the failures. Detailed analyses were made to investigate the availability rate and the distributions of error components in different types of library collection. It was found that monographs in foreign languages have the lowest availability rate. This is especially so in the subject of management, science and engineering. Based on the findings, I made a list of policy suggestion intended to improve availability rate in the future. A comparison was also made between present study and those reported in the literature.
