Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北大學 === 犯罪學研究所 === 98 === HIV inmates addicts correctional facilities is increasing in Taiwan. The main purpose of this study is to explore the influential factors HIV inmates prison adjustment by a way of questionnaire in Taipei Prison. Based on data from626 inmates in9 correctional facilities this study explored the characteristics of these sort of prisoners, the treatment program, access to social support, and factors that might affect their adjustment to the facility. The major results are as follows: The results showed that inmates with a healthy sense of self do better physically and psychologically than others in correctional facilities, and inmates who adopt a positive attitude toward setbacks tend to adapt to situations better. Social support associated with inmates’ adjustment is significant. The conclusions suggest that the inmates should be classified according to their characteristics and provided with appropriate treatment; professionals and health care resources should be introduced to assist inmates to adapt to their illness and imprisonment and effective treatment should be proposed for longer-term HIV infected addicts. Based on the findings mentioned above, I’d like to provide suggestions for the correctional policy of HIV inmates. In order to accelerate HIV inmates to adjust the treatment, the prison environment should be improved and ease living stress. The function of classification and investigation should be enhanced as well as living handbook should be edited. Increasing the education of coping strategies to guide HIV inmates how to deal with stress positively, and the efficiency of the rehabilitation treatment could be ramped up. It’s requisite as well that promote volunteers’ assistance of correctional works and strengthen the function of support from correctional staff. Helping them to build up a better interpersonal relationship and avoid the state of self-alienated and isolation. Finally, encouraging the correctional staff to develop the multicultural knowledge and ability.
