Based on the PISA 2006 assessment framework, the PASE contains three cognitive domains: applying knowledge of science in a given situation, describing or interpreting phenomena scientifically and predicting changes, identifying appropriate descriptions, explanations, and predictions to measure pupils’ abilities of scientific explanation. The PASE has been tested by 145 fourth-grade pupils randomly drawn from an elementary school in Taipei County, in Taiwan. According to the statistical analyses, several types of the reliability and validity and norms of PASE have been built in the study. Results of the study could provide significant findings for researchers, teachers, school administration and international organization in the related areas.
