The research was aiming at probing the reading teaching course and the effect on reading comprehension of the elementary school 3rd graders by teaching reading with information technology . The study objects were 17 elementary school third graders. The researcher adopted the Action Research method. The story grammar instruction was conducted by introducing six component elements in a story to the students to prompt students’ comprehension of the story. The six component elements are the main character(s) , the context, the beginning, the developing and the ending of the story, and the responses of the characters. The teaching course of the story grammar was divided into 3 phases: (1) teacher modeling; (2) teacher guiding; (3)students operation. During the research course, by observing the spot teaching, watching the taped video and analyzing students’ worksheets, the researcher obtained the following results:
1. Information technology multimedia has the effect on guiding students in building the concepts of component elements in a story grammar.
2. Read electronic storybook in a teaching activity will help students’ comprehension of the story.
3. Use presentation software to retell a story will help students’ comprehension of the story.
4. Use electronic pictures going along with guiding questions will prompt literal and inference reading comprehension of the students.
The findings of this research are: teaching story grammar integrating with information technology will contribute to the reading comprehension of elementary school 3rd graders, and at the same time the students react positively to the story grammar instructions.
Base on the conclusion, the researcher would recommend the application of teaching integrating with information technology.
