By means of self narrative, the researcher explored how one’s development of growth influenced the onset of bulimic nervosa. In addition, the researcher tried to explore how the diagnosis of eating disorder, lasting for ten years, affected the bulimic and her family to make changes and lead to maturity. The researcher adopted narrative as the method to explore life stories. The study was based on the narrative process which induced personal stories to come up continuously. When the researcher told her stories again in a narrative way, she re-experienced these traumatic memories and formed a new understanding of trauma. As the researcher switched her point of view to read the stories, she not only broadened but deepened the understanding of the diagnosis, bulimia nervosa and eating disorder. Based on the understanding, the researcher constructed her own unique meaning of being a bulimic, which helped the researcher to embrace these torturing experiences. With the method of self-narrative to look into how eating disorder affected one’s life, the researcher found 3 main changes in the process: the adjustment of family function, the re-construction of self-concept, emotional awareness, and self-regulation. These were mainly brought about by eating disorder, which led to a crash in the individual and family system. . Furthermore, the researcher looked into the process of how she got the new understanding of these traumatic stories. From the new perspective, she found the “real self” hidden in the context and some emotions not expressed yet in the new comprehension. Besides, the researcher concluded the new comprehension of the treatment of bulimia nervosa in psychotherapy and how an individual constructed his/her own meaning in life process. The study ended up in the discussion about how the researcher organized the research of self-exploration with an aim to call more life experiences, stirring up more creations of unique life stories.
