Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 教育事業創新經營碩士學位在職進修專班 === 98 === The purpose of this study is to construct the Key Success Factors (KSFs) for selecting elementary school principals. Twelve successful elementary school principals were chosen as subjects and given the questionnaire survey that was formulated after reviewing relevant literature and experts’ opinions. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was adopted to pair and weigh possible factors, and it was determined that the KSFs for one to be selected as an elementary school principal are the ability to integrate, the ability to market, and the ability to turn the previous two into effective response measures. The integration ability includes three major aspects: personal leadership and charisma, interpersonal relationship, and market values. The marketing ability includes three major aspects: marketing planning, marketing implementation, and values creating. In total, there are two major factors with six major aspects and 30 evaluation principles. The findings and suggestions are as follows. 1. Findings (1) The two KSFs behind being successfully selected as an elementary school principal are the integration ability and the marketing ability. The former is deemed as the core ability by all interviewed respondents, male or female. (2) Of the three major aspects of the integration ability, “interpersonal relationship” is deemed as most important by all interviewed respondents, male or female. (3) Of the three major aspects of the marketing ability, “marketing planning” is deemed as most important whereas “marketing implementation” is deemed least important, indicating it is often difficult for principals to convey a consistent message. (4) Of the six major aspects, “building the interpersonal relationship” is deemed most important by all interviewed respondents, male or female. (5) Of the 30 evaluation principles, “being able to hire the right people” and “being able to touch people’s hearts” are deemed by all interviewed respondents, male or female, as important qualities that increase one’s chance of becoming a principal. 2. Suggestions (1) For the education authority: Formulate a more complete set of regulations governing selecting school principals that complements educational reform, reinforce the auditing for principals, and audit teachers, directors, and deans during their training and work. (2) For teacher-training organizations: Observe teachers, directors, and deans during their training for their integration and marketing abilities, and ask them to demonstrate these qualities. (3) For the principal-selection committee: Reinforce the evaluation of the integration ability and the approach and strategy of marketing. (4) For principals: Develop the integration and marketing abilities as early as possible; “interpersonal relationship” under “the integration ability” needs to be reinforced, and clear plans are needed for marketing. Candidates need to demonstrate their ability to hire the right people and to touch people’s hearts during the campaign, and they need to propose how they will recruit and train their future staff. If necessary, certain criteria need to be stressed in order to meet the selection requirements. (5) For future researchers: Issues such as responding to the environment, inter-school competitions, and marketing have become increasingly important and deserve to be examined.
