ZigBee is a new communication protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSN), which has various advantages such as low transfer rate, low power consumption, low cost, and supporting large number of network nodes, to name a few. In recent years, wireless sensor networks have been applied to different fields, such as industry, commercial, and home applications. We use broadcast transmission mechanisms to disseminate information of exhibition items nearby. For better understanding the communication qualities over different environmental settings, we conducted intensive experiments on the measurement of signal quality in terms of RSSI (Received signal strength indication) and packet error rate. We considers different factors such as location (e.g. exhibition rooms, corridors, and outdoors), position (e.g. on/off the corners), distance, and transmission power. Basing on our measurement results, we found a possible setting for the guide system is with Power Level 7 and transmission frequency of 2 messages per second, which would results in message successful probability of 0.96 within a transmission distance of 15-meter.
