Core workers of Institution A, which is the host of the biggest photonics professional exhibition in Taiwan, are interviewed to assess their competency and to establish a pertinent mode, which may be used as a reference for the relevant institutions. This study describes how the Taiwan government promotes the MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition) industry and how the MICE industry is developed. Presently it is observed that there is a lack of government policy for cultivating and educating talented people in the MICE industry. Therefore, seven core workers from Institution A are interviewed. The interview contents are analyzed, arranged and summarized. During the interviews, we find that there are 13 competency and characteristics regarded to be important factors in establishing competency, which are: knowledge and experience about the exhibition, customer oriented service, problem solving ability, project planning and management, coordination and communication, achievement oriented behavior, English communication skill, marketing ability, public relation ability, optimism, team work, and self-learning and growing. Finally,
the author uses six criteria and theories obtained from literature to arrange the data and to establish a pertinent mode: aggressiveness in facing and solving problems, impacts of sales figures, professional knowledge and skills, achievement oriented inclination, capabilities in executing and managing projects, and good human relation or EQ.
