碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 文化與自然資源學系社會科教學碩士班 === 98 === Recently, the industry of Anthurium (Flamingo Flower) in Neimen Township, Kaohsiung County, Taiwan is flourishing and its output value increased year by year has made it become an industry with local features. The purpose of this study is to investigate the history and characteristics of production and operations management of Anthurium in Neimen Township, Kaohsiung County, Taiwan. Literature review, field study and interview were used in this study to understand the cultivation and management of Anthurium and illustrate the history of Anthurium development in Neimen Township in terms of the cultural and environmental characteristics. Furthermore, the organization and management characteristics of this industry were examined and the strength, weakness, risk and opportunity of the Anthurium industry in Neimen Township, Kaohsiung County were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The farmers in Neimen Township, in response to the environmental and social evolution, adjusted themselves to have the best way of agricultural production which changed the local agricultural landscape. 2. Although the cultural and climatic environment of Neimen Township was suitable for cultivating Anthurium, the threshold of restrictions on the lands, funds, water and disease prevention were required further consideration. 3. The knowledge, technological and interpersonal interaction made the Anthurium industry in Neimen Township possible. Those farmers who were successful in planting Anthurium expanded a lot of cultivating areas. 4. Due to the Anthurium of Neimen Township was famous in flower markets, the Anthurium from plenty of nearby cities was sold in the name of Neimen Township and assembled in Neimen Township. Neimen Township has become the assembling center of Anthurium in great Kaohsiung area. 5. The flower farmers and the production/operations management in Neimen Township have established an operational procedure to produce Anthurium with equal quality. They also had long-term business plan and put efforts on expanding the markets. 6. The Anthurium has become an important industry with local features in Neimen Township. Planting Anthurium increased the farmers’ income; as a result, it improved the farmers’ living situation.
