The specific objectives were as follows: 1. to understand the Taichung city residents’ leisure participation, social capital and subjective well-being; 2. to explore the relationships among residents’ socio-demographic characters, leisure participation, social capital and subjective well-being; 3. to construct and validate the structural model among leisure participation, social capital and subjective well-being and then to examine the causal relationships among leisure participation, social capital and subjective well-being. A total of 403 valid questionnaires were collected through face-to-face survey from residents who live in the Taichung city. Establishing from the previous literature, we tested the conceptual model and found that leisure participation and social capital are antecedents of residents’ subjective well-being. Based on the research findings, there were significant differences among residents’ social-demographic characteristics, leisure participation, social capital and subjective well-being. Furthermore, the variables of residents’ marriage status, age, occupation, education, family monthly income, self-rated health showed significant variance in leisure participation, social capital and subjective well-being. The overall modified model was moderate fit the data (GFI=0.93, RMSEA=0.082, CFI=0.96, PNFI=0.73). After conducting the Structural Equation Modeling, the results showed that the residents’ leisure participation and social capital positively and significantly influenced subjective well-being. (γ=0.21,β=0.73); their leisure participtation also positively and significantly influenced social capital. (γ=0.39). Based on the findings of this study, some suggestions are proposed for local government authority providing adequate leisure facilities and meeting places. Therefore, the residents can have more chance to participate leisure activities, and enhence interpersonal interaction. Finally, the recommendations for future research were also discussed.
