Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between paternal involvement and preschoolers’ attachment of pre-school children’s father, and the current situation and the differences. The study used a questionnaire survey method. Researchers issue questionnaires in the public and private kindergartens in the four central counties of Taiwan, and retrieve 670 effective questionnaires by using “Paternal Involvement and Preschooler’s Attachment Scale”. Data are analyzed by descriptive statistics, the Chi-square test, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple regressions.
The main findings of this study are as follows:
1. Paternal involvement and preschoolers’ attachment of pre-school children’s fathers are belong to extent general.
2. There are significant differences among fathers with disadvantaged and not disadvantaged family whose educations, daily work hours, holiday work hours, whether the spouse is employed.
(1)The proportion of father with disadvantaged family including in country below or high school (duty) education level, the daily average work hours are below 4 hours or 4~8 hours, the holiday average productive hours are 8~12 hours or above 12 hours, spouse not employment, the occupation is the first-and-a-half levels of technologies and the non-technical worker and the second level of technical worker, is higher than the father in not disadvantaged family.
(2)The proportion of father with not disadvantaged family including university or research institute (including above) education level, the daily average work hours are 8~12 hours, the holiday does not have work or the average productive hours is below 4 hours, spouse employment, the occupation is the third-and-a-half level of specialists and the general government workers, the fourth level of specialists and the intermediate administrative personnel and the fifth level of senior specialists and the senior executives, is higher than the father in not disadvantaged family.
3. The father with not disadvantaged family of paternal involvement and preschoolers’ attachment are obviously superior to the father with disadvantaged family.
4. There are significant differences of paternal involvement among fathers and preschoolers with the variables of fatherhood ages, education, whether the spouse is employed, the amount of children, occupation as well as birth orders.
(1) Fathers who as father until now 6~8 years maintain more paternal involvements than those who as father until now 9~11 years.
(2) Fathers whose education are high school, faculty, university and research institute maintain more paternal involvements than those who education is country below.
(3) Fathers whose spouse is employed maintain more paternal involvements.
(4) Fathers who have one child maintain more paternal involvements.
(5) Fathers whose occupation are the fourth level of specialists and intermediate administrative personnel maintain more paternal involvements than those who occupation are the first-and-a-half levels of technologies and non-technical worker and the second level of technical worker
(6) Fathers who have only child maintain more paternalinvolvements.
5. There are significant differences of preschoolers’ attachment among fathers and preschoolers with the variables of father ages, fatherhood ages, occupation and birth orders.
(1) Fathers who are 36~40 years old show better preschoolers’ attachment relations than those who are below 30 years old.
(2) Fathers who as father until now 6~8 years show better preschoolers’ attachment relations than those who as father above 12 years.
(3) Fathers whose occupation are the fourth level of specialists and intermediate administrative personnel as well as the fifth level of senior specialists and senior executives show better preschoolers’ attachment relations.
(4) Fathers with the only one child show better preschoolers’ attachment relations.
6. Pre-school children’s father paternal involvement and preschoolers’ attachment was positively significant correlated.
7. Fathers’ education, spouse employment and the only one child can predict results of paternal involvements scales.
8. Father’s emotional support can predict results of preschoolers’ attachment scales.
