Life experiences of women with newly diagnosed Pre-eclampsia

碩士 === 國立台北護理學院 === 護理助產研究所 === 98 === This thesis aims to investigate the effect of pre-eclampsia on the pregnant women who suffer pre-eclampsia for the first time and strategies they take when facing pre-eclampsia. In this study, ten participants are interviewed for their life experience and process of pre-eclampsia. The content of the audio-taped interview is based on the structured outline. Every participant is respectively interviewed two to three times and each interview takes approximately two to three hours. The interview is then transcribed and analyzed afterward. The description, significant meaning and emotion in the story of each participant aim to reconstruct its historical meaning and produce the evidence for scientific study. This thesis comes to the following conclusions: first, pre-eclampsia causes a great deal of stress on the pregnant women. Second, the medical information and resources are not sufficient and accessible for the women suffering pre-eclampsia in Taiwan medical enviornment. Third, women are not informed of the significance meaning when their body weight are over the average standard. Fourth, no symptoms for hypertension is unacceptable for women suffering pre-eclampsia. Fifth, different doctor has different treatment on pre-eclampsia,which reduces the feeling of trust between doctor and patient. Sixth, the nursing staffs ,indifference makes the women feel incapable. Seventh, personal consultation service and treatment program are particularly needed. Eighth, the desire to ensure the health of fetus drives pregnant women to control blood pressure. Ninth, the women who suffer pre-eclampsia are always not informed of the importance of following up the blood pressure during the post partum. Tenth, the support from the family and the society help the pre-eclampsia women control their disease. Ultimately, the pre-eclampsia changes women’s attitude toward life. The research result intends to make contributions to the following areas: in clinical practice, to assist careers to better understand the effects of pre-eclampsia on women, and to provide references for the future clinical pre-eclampsia nursing and management; in health education, to provide suggestions for pre-eclampsia education; in academic research, to offer an approach for future studies of pre-eclampsia nursing.
